Genealogy Superlatives

52 in 52 Challenge:  Week 8

Well, it took 8 weeks to happen, but I am officially a week behind!  I missed a week while I was away.  If I had planned better, I could’ve have the post ready to go before my trip, but I kept putting it off.   The hardest part about writing this blog is choosing a topic.  The second hardest is researching what I have chosen to write about.  I didn’t anticipate that as I thought when it came time to write, all I would have to do is open one of my genealogy notebooks or my family tree, and just type from the information there.  That’s not what happens.  I end up re-verifying everything before I post it here.  I want the blog to be accurate, and genealogy is never finished, so I tend to “check a few things.”  That would be fine if I could confine myself to the topic at hand and not go off on tangents.  Several hours after deciding to “check” something, I realize that I have gotten sidetracked and have been researching.

Anyway, the point is, since I was a week behind, I thought I would write about “Genealogy Superlatives”.  So easy.  Just find the “most” in a variety of categories, and bam!  Blog post done.  Nope.  It has taken me about 5 hours to gather the following information and another 90 minutes to organize it as I typed it.

*Note to family members following along:  Generally, I have been rotating choosing a topic from the research that begins with each grandparent’s name.  This week, I split the tree in half and will give results for mom’s and dad’s halves of the tree.
